Acklam Whin’s 50th Birthday

This year we are celebrating our 50th Birthday and are planning a number of activities for the children and families, past and present.

The Official Opening of Acklam Whin Primary School took place on Tuesday 23rd June 1970 and we are planning a huge party on Saturday June 27th 2020 to commemorate this.

‘Party in The Playground’ Saturday June 27th 2020

The ‘Party in The Playground’ will be a special open-air concert on the school grounds, with performances from past and present pupils as well as a range of local bands and a special headline act. The party will be open to pupils, families, friends, colleagues – past and present and more information about the lineup and tickets will be released in the coming weeks. We hope you will save the date in your diary for what promises to be a very special day for our school and families.

Throughout the year, we are planning a range of art projects to celebrate our birthday, including a portrait exhibition, murals and two films, one about a ‘day in the life’ and one about a ‘year in the life’ of Acklam Whin.

We are also planning to offer a number of ‘Open Days’ in the Summer Term for past pupils to visit the school and see how we have changed over the years.

As part of our celebrations we would like to make a book of memories. We know that many of you attended Acklam Whin and may have old photographs, pieces of work or specific memories of your time at Acklam Whin. If you would like us to consider including them in the book and in an exhibition in school, please could you send a photograph of the memory to [email protected] or go to the school office where they will be able to photocopy it for you. Please also attach any details you are happy to be published such as the year, your name and any other relevant details or specific memories you may recall.

We hope to create an exhibition and the special book full of memories of Acklam Whin from the past 50 years, which will be available later in the year.

If you have any questions or queries about any of the birthday activities we have planned, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We look forward to celebrating our 50th Birthday with you in style.
