This week the focus is on poetry.
·       Read different types of poetry and identify features such as rhyming words, repetition, topic words, punctuation.
·       Look at how the poems are set out and notice that they are not always in full sentences.
·       Your poem is going to be about a flower or garden. Go into your garden or look out of the window and think of some adjectives to describe these. Use all of your senses to help.
·       With the adjectives create some expanded noun phrases – beautiful, bright tulip.
·       Try to think carefully about your adjectives and see if you can improve any that you first thought of – is there a shade of red you could use instead of red, for example ruby or scarlet.
·       Now write your own poem. Remember to include some of the features that you identified when investigating the poems. A model to use could be this-
The beautiful garden.
I can see a bright, pretty tulip,
I can see a tiny, lime green shoot,
I can hear a soft, tweeting bird,
I can hear the leaves rustling in the wind,
The beautiful garden.
·       Focus on the vocabulary you are choosing and make sure your handwriting is neat – tall letters to the top of the line.
